Company: TE San Pedro Rep
Location: San Pedro, CA
Start Date: Sept 20, 2015
Type of Position: Contract through March 2016, paid a small stipend
Minimum Education Level: Masters, PhD (BFA with requisite experience may be considered)
Minimum Years of Experience: 2-5
Job Description: TE San Pedro Rep (TESPR) is seeking an energetic, passionate and inventive Dramaturge/Playwright who will assist in the creation of a final script for an original production
based on Alice in Wonderland
The individual we seek should care deeply about the story of Alice and all its various forms and associated materials; we are looking for an individual who will thoughtfully and dynamically create a narrative with the
utmost respect to the overarching themes of our story. Over the last year, the choreographer of this project has constructed a specific framework that explores the origin and legacy of Alice in Wonderland,
We will explore the roots of Fantasy, the essence of Good and Evil, the universality and longevity of a moral code, madness, sanity, and childlike imagination.
We will also delve into the fiercely human aspects of such legendary and sometimes archetypal characters as the Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter, Mr. Rabbit, and others. We need an individual who will be able to parse through Carol's poetry and books, our primary source material, which includes Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
Our dramaturge/playwright will construct scenes and dialogue from text taken directly from Carol's work. These scenes will then be fitted into very specific areas within the larger, more detailed
framework of our story, as our choreographer has constructed thus far.
Rehearsals for this project begin early January, so we would ideally require a script in hand by the
Beginning of December. We are looking for a self-starter who is eager to begin work on
this exciting project! As an up and coming theatre in Los Angles, we are proud to offer a small, but competitive, stipend that will be commensurate with experience.
This is a position that can be done either on site or remotely via email and Skype, though being on site at the theatre may be required occasionally throughout the process. The details of this can be worked out with the right candidate.
How to Apply:
If you are interested in collaborating with us on our production of Alice in Wonderland,
please email a cover letter, a resume, and a few of your thoughts regarding this
project to TESPR’s Managing Director, Chris Lang at [email protected]
