WHEN
April 02, 2022 at 10:00am - 5pm

10am to 5pm EST

Join the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard in welcoming studio potters, educators, and long-time friends, Suze Lindsay and Margaret Bohls as they share their unique approaches to building and surface techniques in clay during this two-day workshop. Ceramic artists of all levels of experience will benefit from seeing the wide breadth of techniques employed to create their functional work and sketchbook exercises will enhance ideas for experimentation and play. Both artists draw inspiration from ceramic art history and will share images of historical references and influences.

Margaret will demonstrate the process she used to make the work from her Modernist series and her Italian series which includes building vessels from scale drawings using the coil and pinch method. She will also address surface development techniques including the use of tape and wax to create geometric lines and shapes.

Suze’s demo will focus on functional pots, made using thrown and altered pieces, and when called for, combined with handbuilt elements that are joined and stacked. Moving from wheel to tabletop construction, she will talk about darting and adding volume to create forms that have character and personality. Surface enhancement using slip decorating techniques on greenware will be shared to inspire your studio practice.
