About Sci-Fest LA

Co-founded by veteran Los Angeles theatre producers, Michael Blaha and Lee Costello and actor, David Dean Bottrell, SCI-FEST LA: The Los Angeles Science Fiction One-Act Play Festival debuted to a sold-out house at the famous ACME Theatre in Los Angeles on May 6, 2014 and has since become a critically acclaimed and highly anticipated annual event.

This first-of-its-kind festival offers audiences two rotating evenings of new, professionally produced, visually compelling, 15-minute sci-fi plays - all performed live on stage.   Since its inception, the festival has produced scripts by many up-and-coming sci-fi writers as well as world premiere stage adaptations based on the work of literary legends like Neil Gaiman (“The Case of Four and Twenty Blackbirds”), Ursula Le Guin (“The Wife’s Story”) Clive Barker (“The Departed”) and Ray Bradbury (“Kaleidoscope”).  In addition, the festival sponsors two short story writing contests:  The Tomorrow Prize (for local high school students) and The Roswell Award (for adult writers of science fiction).

All of the one-act plays produced by the festival are directed and designed by an “A-Team” of Los Angeles-based theatre professionals and feature many well-known actors from iconic sci-fi franchises such as “Star Trek,” “The X-Files,” “The Walking Dead,” “Supernatural,” “Lost,”  “Grimm,” “Heroes,” “Fringe,” “The Hunger Games,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “True Blood.”
