Another Slave Narrative received first place at the African-American Women in Cinema Film Festival, was screened at Hulu for Black History Month celebrations, and garnered a sold-out screening in Charlottesville at the Virginia Film Festival
Synopsis: As part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal in 1936-1938, the Federal Writers’ Project interviewed more than 2,300 former slaves to gain first-hand accounts of enslaved life. Of those interviewed, nearly all were at least 80 years old and many were older than 120. Another Slave Narrative is the only slave narrative film series to feature a multiracial cast that performs the original transcripts of these federal interviews in former slaves’ own words. Each interview alternates between 7-8 actors’ individual portrayal of one former slave. In one interview, a Jewish male, an African-American female, and an Indian-American male portray themselves as formerly enslaved, Delicia Patterson. In this way, a community carries one former slave’s story forward. For more information, visit anotherslavenarrative.com.
