Le Jardin is a small 12" x 24" oil on canvas floral which was painted in March 2002 in Hermosa Beach, California. It is part of the 9/11 series of 3,047 florals. It was the first painting which sold, and it sold to a physician in southern California based on a photograph of the painting which I was looking at while sitting in the doctor's lounge in a South Bay Hospital.

I called my brother-in-law to tell him that someone had offered me several thousands of dollars for one of my paintings.
"One of which paintings?" he asked. "Since when do you even paint?"
"I started painting," I replied.
"You started painting? When did you start painting?" he asked.
"A couple of months ago. . . In November."
"And someone offered you four thousand dollars for a painting you did a few months after you started painting? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? I don't believe you. What did you paint?"
"I'm painting flowers. It's true. I wouldn't make this up."
"Who wanted to give you money for your painting?"
"A doctor in the hospital where I work."
"You took the money, right?"
"Well - - actually, no. I didn't. I didn't want to part with the painting," I responded.
"You're kidding, right? Take the - - - - - - - money! You'll paint another one. Or take a picture of it first and then sell it. I'd go back to the guy and tell him that you want to sell it after all. But don't be surprised if he's changed his mind or already bought his wife something else for her birthday! Wait until I tell your sister this one! She's not going to believe it either!"
