Prompted by the efforts of Massachusetts U.S. Senator, Harvard Law School alum, & abolitionist Charles Sumner, on January 16, 1865, General W. T. Sherman signed the order popularly referred to as “40 Acres and Mule“ at his Savannah, Georgia headquarters. The order granted a homestead to recently freed slaves.
This month, Harvardwood's Savannah/Hilton Head chapter is pleased to be a lead sponsor of The Mission Winds Clarinet Quartet's concert at this historic location. The Quartet is part of the U.S. Air Force’s Band of The West.
