After the War, musicians like Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet,
and Josephine Baker became the toasts of France. Peter and Will
Anderson and their Quintet will tell the story and celebrate the
music in performances that evoke the joyful spirit of those smoky
Parisian jazz cafes.
Twins Peter and Will Anderson have played with Wynton
Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Jimmy Heath, Michael Feinstein, and the
Village Vanguard Orchestra. The New York Times called
them "Virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone," the New York Post
praised their "Toe-tapping heart-lifting jazz," and Backstage
hailed them as "Delightful, dazzling, and infectious". Quincy
Jones told them, "You dudes are the future! You all have made my
soul smile, and you made a 78 year old ex-be-bopper smile like a
fox eatin' sauerkraut." "Le Jazz Hot: How the French Saved Jazz"
has just completed a triumphant month long run that broke box
office records at the 59 E 59 Theater.
And
this is an amazing bargain. If you went to 59 E 59 to hear these
performers, you'd have paid $35 just for the music--if you had a couple of drinks at the show and went to dinner nearby as well, you would have ended up spending way over $100 per person for the evening with taxes and tips on top. We're offering a reception
with wine, light hors d'oeuvres, and cheeses,
followed by an elegant and mouthwatering sit-down dinner with wine,
prepared by the DTA's superb Chef Anthony LoCastro, followed by some of
the most glorious music you'll ever hear, followed by a scrumptious
buffet of desserts and coffee or tea--and all for just $83 complete if
you're a Full Member! This will be an amazing night out for a fraction
of what it would cost at a commercial venue.
And all of this in the stunning 1887 landmark surroundings of the
beautiful and friendly Down Town Association and surrounded by some
of the nicest people in New York! What an irresistible way to warm
up a March evening! The
Down Town Association is easy to reach at 60 Pine Street. Just take
the #2 or #3 train to the Wall Street Station, and leave by the Pine
Street exit. You'll be across the street from the Down Town Association.
Or you can take the #4 or #5 train to the Wall Street station. Walk
three blocks east on Wall Street to William Street. Turn left on William
Street and walk one block to Pine. Then turn right on Pine Street. 60
Pine Street is on the left side of the street. (It's simpler than it
sounds!)
