Harvardwood Presents in partnership with DeeperDive: DeeperDive Seminar Series Fall 2021

WHEN
September 29, 2021 at 5:30pm - 6:30pm

5:30pm PST / 8:30 EST September 29 through October 27.

This is a five-week seminar.

Harvardwood, in partnership with DeeperDive.org, is excited to announce an exclusive survey course for full members on Religious Literacy in Writing for Fall 2021.

This five-week training aims to elucidate the following: What is religious literacy? In what ways is religious literacy an important tool for storytelling? What steps can content creators and producers take towards incorporating it into their work?

Religion appears in the stories we tell constantly. From cinematic references to iconography to characters, the chances of writing a script that completely omits religion is borderline impossible; characters are always moving through real or imagined societies in which religious institutions and ideas affect even nonbelievers. In addition, film and television may well be the primary platform where individuals encounter religions other than their own.

This course, presented by Jason Hoezel and Lindsey Smith, will provide the background for participants to create more nuanced, non-stereotypical narratives about religion at any phase of a project. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate of recognition for completion of coursework.

DeeperDive is the first social impact partnership and consulting firm specializing in religious literacy in entertainment media. Spearheaded by Harvard Divinity School alumni and fellows, DeeperDive advises public, private and nonprofit organizations seeking to improve internal diversity and social responsibility strategy, evaluates media content using HDS’ Religious Literacy Project metrics, and offers specialized media executive’s education for social impact storytelling.

Each one-hour seminar will take place via Zoom on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm PT from September 29 through October 27, 2021.

Recordings will be made available upon request if members cannot make each week in person.
