Harvardwood is proud to support the Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival (LACFF), one of our Harvardwood Heroes Grant Recipients for 2019! All films are English-Friendly so that cinephiles of all backgrounds can enjoy them.
LACFF’s Festival Chair, June Tan, is a Harvard Law School alumna, and their Marketing Director Athena Bowe, is a graduate of Harvard College.
This year, LACFF 2019 will take place at the Downtown Independent from October 25th to October 27th, and will feature a strong line-up of thoughtfully curated films including A Birthday Gift, as short film by a Director from our own community - Dan Zhou (Harvard College). Dan Zhou will also be conducting a Q&A for his film after the screening!
Other highlights include the the opening film and Sundance winner The Chinese Mayor by renowned journalist and documentarist Zhou Hao, and upcoming talent such as Director Zhu Xin’s debut feature, Vanishing Days, which was nominated by Berlinale Forum, Busan International Film Festival, and the Hong Kong International Film Festival, Director Zhou Lidong’s debut feature The Fall, which won the Netpac Award at Warsaw International Film Festival, Director Mijie Li’s documentary feature Confucian Dream, which won the Special Jury Prize at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and Director Tracy Dong’s documentary Feature In Character, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the First Youth Film Festival in Xining. Many of the filmmakers, including Mijie Li and Tracy Dong, will be present for Q&A sessions after their respective screenings.
This year’s LACFF has partnered with Sino-Screen to highlight an industry panel on October 27th and will discuss topics ranging from international content strategy to the representation of Asians Hollywood.
